The soldier, manning a forward post, was killed in the firing from across the border in Shahpur-Kerni area of Poonch sector, an Army official said.

The jawan is the third army personnel to die in Pakistani firing and shelling on forward posts and villages in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri this month.
Pakistani troops fired 82 mm mortar bombs, used small and automatic weapons in the firing on forward Indian posts in Laam Battalion area in Naushera.
Pakistani troops violated ceasefire on Saturday by targeting Indian posts along the Line of Control in Poonch district with rocket projectile grenades and heavy machine guns this morning leading to heavy firing exchanges.
Violating the ceasefire again, Pakistani troops pounded Indian posts and civilian areas along the LoC with 82 mm mortar shells and fired from automatic weapons in Poonch district.
The major ceasefire violations took place on 3, 4 and 5 October along the Line of Control in Jammu region.
"Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing in three areas of Noushera Rajouri district from 05:15 hours today," Defence Spokesman Col Manish Mehta said. They fired mortar bombs, automatic weapons and small arms, he said, adding that Indian troops gave a befitting reply.
The officials added that six houses were damaged in the intense shelling by Pakistani troopers.
Pak forces violated ceasefire twice in one day.
The firing on Indian positions on its Independence Day drew strong retaliation from Indian troops even as soldiers from both sides did not exchange sweets along the border.
The intense shelling from across the border also prompted the authorities to suspend class work in nearly half a dozen government-run schools falling within the firing range in Poonch district.
When the forces confronted him and asked him to surrender, Latif tried to run away towards Pakistan but was arrested, they added.
Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations admitted three casualties among their troops at Rakhchakri in Rawalakot.
"Pakistani soldiers opened unprovoked firing on Indian posts in Doda Battalion forward area of Poonch district at around 0930 hours today (on Tuesday)," Defence spokesman S N Acharya said.
Indian troops fired in retaliation to silence the Pakistani guns and the exchange of fire between the two sides was continuing when last reports came in.
The border skirmishes witnessed a spurt after India's air strike.
